PHOTOS: The Wonderful World Of Color Inside This Quirky Amarillo Landmark
Amarillo has many historical homes. Some are over a hundred years old, others not so old, but very unique. In fact, chances are that you've seen this curious little home right by Amarillo College.
That's the Harry Holland House. The Harry Holland House was built in 1937. Many have passed by and admired the home, but few know the story it holds. In fact, we tracked down some of the histories of the house and found it was built by men's clothing store owner Harry Holland.
However, we didn't know the charm of the home until we met with the current owner, McKay Moran. After hearing about our post on the home, Moran reached out and graciously opened the home to us for a tour.
All I can say is the home is a stunning mix of contemporary and original.
McKay shared with us how she came to be the owner of the house and all I can say is it was meant to be.
This home was meant for her and her family.
After walking into the home, you immediately are in awe. Although a lot of new has been added, most of the original home still stands.
While touring the home, I was amazed by the bathrooms. The two full baths each have a dressing room attached--including vanities. The half bath downstairs is a step back in time, and its nostalgic vibe brings warmth to the home.
The basement is the true hidden gem of this home. It was almost as if you were walking into what could be a nice movie room or even a place to host a small dance, complete with a disco ball.
The lighting fixtures throughout the house were beautiful, some original, some more modern. Don't get me started on the fans! They were beautiful and fit the rooms perfectly.
The kitchen, although not original to the home, still is inviting and a perfect spot for breakfast. The home does have an outside apartment, but at the time of the tour, the apartment had a tenant and we didn't want to bother them.
The thing about this home in its current state is the pop of bright colors, McKay has used to decorate the home and make it perfect for her family.
One of the greatest things about this home is the natural lighting.
I can't help but wonder what Mr. and Mrs. Holland would think about their home today if they could walk through and see how inviting the home is today.
Enjoy our tour!
