Half a Century of Flavor: Celebrating the 50th Birthday of the Allsup’s Burrito
The Allsup's Burrito has been bringing joy to the millions of people who have ordered one of these fried bundles of goodness.
No matter how you eat an Allsup's Burrito (if you aren't eating it with mustard or the taco sauce you're not eating it right), it has been a staple in this area for decades. There was a time when you could get two of these yummy burritos for just $1. Although those days are long gone, your taste buds can still delight in a burrito from Allsup's.
To say this burrito is iconic would be an understatement. It's legendary!
The Allsup's Burrito got its start in a doughnut fryer in 1974. The founder of Allsup's, Lonnie Allsup began serving up this classic fried delicacy. Allsup's was the first convenience store to serve up deep-fried burritos.
The Allsup’s Burrito is handmade with love and includes slow-cooked beans, beef, cheese, and a special blend of spices, and then wrapped tight, prepared for frying, and delivered to stores all over the country.
In 2019, the Yesway company purchased Allsup's Convenience Stores and stretched these fried burritos reach. Whereas one could only get the Allsup's Burrito in New Mexico and parts of Texas, the Allsup's Burrito is now available to people in South Dakota, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Wyoming, Oklahoma, and Nebraska.
Over 27 million Allsup's burritos are sold each year.
Now 50 years later, not only can you get that famous burrito, but you have other great options including that mouthwatering Allsup's Chimi.
Happy 50th Birthday Allsup's Burrito!
