There are many ways to create Easter egg colors without buying dye.

Dying Easter eggs is a coveted Easter tradition. Some sources say that it started with North Africans who were converted to Christianity more than 500 years ago. Since eggs and meat were so scare in the area, the gift of an egg on Easter was so wonderful that they wanted to decorate them with festive colors. Later, Edward I of England had eggs decorated as gifts for Easter.

The egg symbolizes the beginning of life that happens in the Spring and, depending on your religious beliefs, the meaning of Easter.

You've probably been through the process of putting food coloring in a cup of water and dropping your egg in it. If you're more interested in a natural approach or just don't have time to grab food coloring, there's a way to create dyes for your eggs that come straight from natural ingredients.

It will take longer for these dyes to stain your eggs and they work best with empty shells.
