Here in Amarillo, we celebrate when a local business does well. It's even better when they do so well that they expand and open many locations.

Why Amarillo’s East Side is Growing

One example is HTeaO. which started in Amarillo. It has expanded across the country.  The Ruffled Cup has 2 other places, and The Acai Bar has expanded all over the Panhandle

Another local business is Hud's. On any given weekend, you'll find a line on Bell Street for those wanting to grab one of their delicious breakfast burritos or a yummy cherry lime.  Right now, Hud's has two locations in Amarillo.

  • 7311 W Amarillo Blvd

Back in 2023, Hud's had a food truck location on Wolflin Ave. But they sold the food truck. It was speculated that they would open a restaurant in the building where the food truck was set up, but that never happened.

However, that is about to be expanded to 3 locations here in Amarillo. Hud's is once again expanding and coming to Amarillo's eastside.

We spoke with Hud's owner, Marcus Calderon, about a new Hud's in Amarillo, and he told us that they are coming to the east side of Amarillo.

We felt like Hud's would be a great addition to that community, including Caprock High School students.

Calderon told us that he grew up in the area and that after many prayers, they decided this would be the perfect spot to build a new Hud's.

What to Expect at the New Hud’s Location

If you look at the two current Hud's, they have a similar layout. However, the new HUDs will be different. It will be much bigger. The new restaurant will feature two drive-up windows. Another feature it will have that the others don't is a large patio, making it perfect for families and those Caprock High students. The parking lot will also be bigger. This will be a place for the community to come and hang.

So, where exactly will the new Hud's be located?

Well, that's kind of a secret Calderon and his partners want to keep it as a surprise and will soon be putting a sign up on the land introducing the new location of Hud's in Amarillo.

Timeline and Hiring Plans for the New Location

As for the opening date, they are hoping to be open by the time the 2026-27 school year rolls around.  Like the other two Hud's locations that hire students from Amarillo High and Tascosa High School, they plan to hire students from Caprock High School.

The growth on the east side of Amarillo has been exponential. In the last year, Buc-ee's has opened, The Acai Bar, Parad-ice, and many more businesses continue to move into this part of Amarillo.

Soon, the residents on the east side of Amarillo won't have to drive to the West side to get the best cherry limes, burgers, and chicken bites.
