Driving along 287 through the Texas panhandle, there isn't much to see on the long stretches between towns. There's nothing more than the stereotypical endless view as the horizon stretches across fields. However, halfway between Clarendon and Memphis, you'll find one of the Texas panhandle's best-kept secrets. There's a roadside stand that is more than meets the eye.

The Farmer's Market On 287 In The Texas Panhandle

Technically, you can say that this roadside produce stand is in Hedley. It sits on the halfway point between Clarendon and Memphis on 287. You can't miss it. It's a big red building that usually has several vehicles parked out front on the weekends.

It's part of Monroe's Peach Ranch, but don't be fooled into thinking it's nothing more than a roadside peach stand. There's a whole farmers market inside of that building. Their website mentions jams, sauces, nuts, fruit, jellies, and pecans as the grocery items they have available. The stalls can change, so expect the offerings to vary from time to time. The website mentions everything from cheesemongers to butchers.

Currently, their hours are listed as closed during the week and open 8 AM to 6 PM on Saturday and Sunday.

I've stopped several times at the roadside farmers market on 287, and there's always a very wide array of items on sale. Sometimes it's fun to just stop and look, stretch your legs, and hang out in the shade for a minute.

I've always loved pulling up to a roadside stand and getting some fruit or vegetables. Now that the weather is looking more and more like spring, I'm looking forward to my next trip down 287, passing Clarendon, and making a stop before I get to Memphis at one of the many hidden jewels of the Texas panhandle.
