Mere weeks after covering 2003 smash hit "Unwell" during a live studio session with The Boot's parter site, Taste of Country, Jimmie Allen got a chance to kick his Matchbox 20 fandom up a notch when former frontman Rob Thomas brought his 2019 Chip Tooth Smile to Nashville on Wednesday (July 10.)

During Thomas' set, Allen joined the singer onstage for a performance of "Unwell," which, he explained on social media, marked a lifelong dream come true. "Tonight my life was made. I got to sing onstage with my musical hero [Rob Thomas]," Allen explained. "His band Matchbox 20 is the reason I started singing. Thank you for inspiring sooooo many musicians, writers and artists. I'ma go cry now."

Allen previously explained to Taste of Country that the message of "Unwell" has resonated with him from the start of his musical journey, especially when it comes to revealing his insecurities and vulnerabilities.

"I feel like especially as entertainers, so much of your life is on social media to where you don't want to be too personal, you just put up the cool stuff," he relates. "A lot of times people might fall in love with who you are, the person on stage, the confidence you have in interviews and onstage, but the insecurities -- they may see things they might like about you, that you might not like about yourself.

"That's the scary part of getting to know someone. You second guess yourself all the time," he adds.

Allen's duet with Thomas is not the first time a country singer has graced the stage of the Chip Tooth Smile Tour. Rising artist Abby Anderson, who is a friend and collaborator of Allen's herself, joins Thomas' tour as opening support. Meanwhile, Allen is spending his summer on the road with Rascal Flatts for their Summer Playlist Tour.
