Keeping The Southern Texans Safe During The Hurricane Season
Amarillo is smacked down in the middle of the Texas Panhandle no where near any big body of water. We do not have to worry about Hurricanes here but, we do have to be ready for other natural disasters.
Now for us that have families in South Texas near the gulf, next time their a hurricane headed their way, they will be safe due to a few Hurricane domes that are being built along the gulf coast of Texas. 28 proposed domes are part of the Texas Safe Shelter Initiative for ones that won't have the time to get out of harms way, protecting the sick and elderly residents that are in the storms path.
The Dome is like a mini version of the Astrodome, so when severe weather is not threatening the gulf coast the dome is going to be used as a gym or community center. In the town of Edna,TX they already building the second hurricane dome that will be nearly 20,000 square feet and be able to withstand winds up to 200 mph.
As we don't have to worry about the Hurricane weather hitting Amarillo, we can just think good thoughts for our fellow Texans down south during their next hurricane. Now people should think about building a structure to withstand our winds and the serve weather here in the panhandle.
