Kenny Chesney Reminisces in New Single ‘Knowing You’ [Listen]
Kenny Chesney's reminiscent new single "Knowing You" is a reflection on those he's met along the way.
A simple acoustic guitar line and a bit of pedal steel back Chesney throughout "Knowing You" as he remembers a certain someone throughout the verses. He's nostalgic, but without regrets, as he sings, "God, we were so alive / I was a kid on a carnival ride / Holdin' my breath 'til the moment where you're gonna leave me too soon / I'd do it all over, 'cause, damn, it was good knowing you."
“We all have those people in our lives, who set you on fire with possibilities, make everything mean more in the moment and forever after that. It’s so technicolor and alive, you may not even realize when you’re in it. But when it’s done, you have to smile because you’re so much more for knowing them, so much more because of every second you shared," Chesney muses in a press release. "Maybe they left you to chase a dream, maybe circumstances pulled you apart, maybe they died, but wherever they are, you know they’re bringing all that to that place — because that’s what they do. It’s what they did for you, and you can only be grateful for what you experienced.”
Chesney says "Knowing You," written by Brett James, Adam James and Kat Higgins, "knocked me out" the first time he heard it.
"It was such a classic kind of country song you don’t hear any more, and it was so pure," he says, and it "brought back so much of the innocent hopefulness of country music, and it suggested so many people."
"And then, the idea you’re wishing the best for the other person, kind of smiling, knowing just what they’re doing and thinking, ‘Yeah, go enjoy the moment ...’ is something the best people in our lives make us feel," the star adds.
Did You Know? "Knowing You" has a lot to live up to: The song follows Chesney's latest single, "Here and Now," the title track of his newest album, released in May. That song hit No. 1 on the country radio charts, after the Top 10 success of the record's first single, "Tip of My Tongue."
Kenny Chesney's "Knowing You" Lyrics:
Knowin' you, you probably got your toes in the sand / At a bar on a beach in the sun somewhere / Knowin' you, you got something cold in your hand / Chattin' up a stranger without a care / Knowin' you, you're still wild and free / And knowin' you, you're probably way over me / But ...
Chorus:
God, we were so alive / I was a kid on a carnival ride / Holdin' my breath 'til the moment / When you were gonna leave me too soon / But I'd do it all over, 'cause damn, it was good knowin' you ...
Knowin' you was a free fall from a hundred thousand feet / When you don't even care where you land / And knowin' you was the kind of rush that you feel / When you finally get to sit in with the band / And knowin' you, you're still a tumbleweed / I only wish that you would tumble back to me / But ...
Repeat Chorus
Knowin' you, you're still a tumbleweed / I only wish that you would tumble back to me / 'Cause ...
Repeat Chorus
I'd do it all over, 'cause damn, it was good knowin' you ...
