It seems these days that no matter the event, there's some kind of controversy or debate about why or what the event is about.

Well, it's happened again with something happening in Amarillo this weekend.

The "March For Our Lives" rally is returning to Amarillo on June 11, and it's sparked up one heck of a debate with this post on Reddit.

In case you don't know what the "March For Our Lives" movement is, it was something started up by a younger group of individuals that came together in light of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. The group was put together within days and a march/rally was held in March.

Now in light of the mass shootings in Buffalo and Uvalde, the group has rallied back together and another march/rally has been scheduled. It's not just here in Amarillo, but all over the country will feature marches.

When the info was posted to the Amarillo Reddit thread, it naturally sparked a debate about gun control, etc. Some comments were logical, some were defensive, and some were just flat-out interesting.

You'll see our first comment is someone mentioning how the issue isn't with guns, it's with the "evil people" that get their hands on them. You can see it promptly got four downvotes. So what was the first response to that comment?

There it is. ELEVEN upvotes talking about how more training needs to be done when being allowed to purchase a gun. I mean, they make a good point in that we take several tests in order to get a driver's license. Why should being able to obtain a gun and its proper licensing be any easier than that?

Then we get to this spirited exchange.

You can see the OP of the comment didn't really have an educated comment to make, they simply said guns aren't the problems, then referenced "loony's" being the issue. A whole debate over mental illness began.

One thing we can all agree on is this, we want to see the gun violence stop.

If you want to join the march/rally, it'll be taking place June 11th from 9-11am. It'll be held at Amarillo ISD Education Support Center at 7200 W Interstate 40. More info about the event can be found here
