Medal of Honor Recipient Sgt. Meyer Will Be Speaking In Amarillo
A true American hero is coming to Amarillo to be a part of this year's Hope Lives Here Fundraising Gala. Marine Corps Veteran and Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. Dakota Meyer will be speaking at this year's 2nd annual event on Saturday, October 3, at the Embassy Suites Hotel downtown. This will be a special night, not only with Sgt. Meyer speaking, but we will also be celebrating the graduation of 3 service dogs and their veteran handlers.
Hope Lives Here provides service dogs for veterans who suffer from post-traumatic stress (PTS), traumatic brain injury (TBI), and military sexual trauma (MST) as well as chronic pain disorders. The program rescues dogs from local shelters, pair them with a veteran, and train the two as a team.
Sergeant Dakota Meyer is the New York Times best-selling author of the book, Into the Fire: A Firsthand Account of the Most Extraordinary Battle in the Afghan War. Meyer earned the nation’s highest military honor, the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Battle of Ganjgal, widely considered as one of the deadliest battles of the Afghanistan war. He is the first living Marine to have received the medal since 1973 and one of the youngest. Humble and propelled by a respect for his fallen comrades, Meyer insists that he is not a hero, and that any Marine would do the same thing.
Tickets are on sale right now by clicking here. Doors will open at 5:30pm and the event will include a happy hour, dinner, and live auction. Guests are asked to dress in semi-formal attire.
