On Friday, Aug. 16 -- the 42nd anniversary of Elvis Presley's death, as well as the penultimate day of Graceland's annual "Elvis Week" -- Netflix announced that it has plans for an adult animated action comedy series inspired by the legendary performer. Called Agent King, the show will put a playful spin on Presley's life, imagining his secret moonlighting gig as a covert government spy on a mission to root out forces of evil.

Rock singer John Eddie and Presley's widow, Priscilla Presley, have partnered with Netflix to create the film, which Priscilla says fulfills a dream that dates back to the superstar's childhood. "From the time Elvis was a young boy he always dreamed of being the superhero fighting crime and saving the world! Agent King lets him do just that," she explains, according to Variety. "My co-creator John Eddie and I are so excited to be working with Netflix and Sony Animation on this amazing project and getting the chance to show the world an Elvis they haven't seen before."

"Elvis Presley trades in his white jumpsuit for a jet pack when he is covertly inducted into a secret government spy program to battle the dark forces that threaten the country he loves -- all while holding down his day job as the King of Rock and Roll," adds Netflix.

Mike Arnold -- a writer who also worked on animated comedy series Archer -- will serve as writer and show runner for Agent King, as well as co-executive producing the project with Fletcher Moules. In addition to Presley and Eddie's roles as co-creators, Jerry Schilling -- the music industry veteran known for his close association with Presley -- will consult on the project.
