Texas Rangers Hire New GM and He Immediately Trades Ace

Lance Lynn was dealing in 2019 but the Texas Rangers held on to him because Jon Daniels and the front office seemingly thought they would compete in 2020. The world had a much different idea for the 2020 baseball season. Lance Lynn was the only consistent thing for the Texas Rangers and even with the Rangers clearly out of contention, the Texas Rangers held on to their ace at the trade deadline.

Moving into 2021, Lance Lynn is a front-line MLB starter with one year left on his deal who has finished the last two seasons in the top-6 of Cy Young voting and a solid trade piece for a franchise who has finally admitted that they are in a rebuild.

First, the team announced that Elvis Andrus would not be the everyday shortstop and they would move Gold Glove 3B Isaiah Kiner-Falefa to the middle instead. Days later the Texas Rangers announced that they would be removing the General Manager title from Jon Daniels and hire Chris Young as the GM. Daniels is still the president of baseball operations.

The Rangers announced Young officially yesterday, then hours later he traded Lance Lynn to the Chicago White Sox.

John Blake, the Executive Vice President of Communications for the Texas Rangers, announced the return for Lynn as Dane Dunning and Avery Weems.

Dunning is a RHP that will likely replace Lynn in the Rangers rotation. He was 2-0 last season in seven starts for the White Sox and immediately slots in at number three in the Rangers top prospect list behind Sam Huff and Josh Jung.

Weems is an Arizona Wildcat who was drafted in the sixth round in 2019. In rookie ball that season he was 5-4 with a 2.09 ERA over 14 starts. Some think he's a diamond in the rough left-handed reliever prospect.
