West Plains High Faces Early Back-to-School Traffic Nightmare
Just when you thought the construction couldn't get any worse, it does. The Texas Department of Transportation announced they were changing the traffic flow to test it around West Plains High School a week before school starts.
The change to the traffic flow of Loop 335 and Arden Road started on Wednesday, August 7th. If you have been used to going both directions to get to West Plains then it's time to get used to a new route. They are testing this out to determine if this new traffic pattern will be safer for drivers and student drivers heading to school. TxDOT will be testing out this traffic pattern for the next few weeks.
The change is as follows:
If you are traveling to West Plains High School from Arden Road, you have to turn right onto N L 335, take the Hillside Turnaround, and south towards WPHS. Then, take a right onto Arden Road. If you are leaving WPHS, you will take a right on SL 335.
Signs will be placed so drivers know which way to turn. After testing this traffic pattern for the next few weeks, TxDOT will then meet with the City of Amarillo and Canyon ISD to determine the next steps to make this area safer for drivers and students.
In the meantime, you might want to rethink your normal route to adjust for these changes.
The entire Amarillo area has some sort of road construction going on so this small change shouldn't make a huge difference. No matter where you drive, you'll probably be frustrated.
With that said, it is essential to ensure the safety of the faculty and students at West Plains by improving the road conditions.
