At any given time, traffic in Amarillo is overwhelming. The quietest time for traffic in the city is in the middle of the night or the very early hours of the morning.

Outside of those times, traffic is crazy inside and outside of Amarillo.  Roads like Soncy, Coulter, Bell, Western, Georgia, and Washington are almost bumper-to-bumper.  Those streets are constantly packed and busy from sunup to sundown.

Why I-40, I-27, and Loop 335 Cause Driving Headaches

It makes one question why there are so many people on the roads.  Now let's talk about the three major thoroughfares. I-40 is notorious, and merging there seems to be a lost art. It's safe to say that the traffic craziness will only get worse as the population of Amarillo grows; it's inevitable. Luckily, we still live in an area where we can get to any part of town within 10-15 minutes.  It's also a blessing that we don't have to sit in standstill traffic forever during rush hours unless there is a ton of construction.

How Amarillo Traffic Compares to Big Cities

However, we don't live in large cities like DFW, San Antonio, or Houston, so we don't deal with insane traffic like they do, but the Amarillo traffic is enough to pull your hair out.
