5 Reasons We Love Living in Amarillo
I'll admit being here in town for a few months has been a fun ride, I've seen how cold it can get here back in February and I'm already no stranger to heat being a Texas Native. There's really a lot of great reasons to call Amarillo home.
The Weather
Despite the fact we had an unusually cold winter here in Amarillo, our weather here is generally not too bad, We don't have as many hot days as some other places here in the lone star state and rain isn't too big a deal here. We do have the occasional storm and tornado to watch out for but it's more the exception than the rule. Besides, if you hate the weather... give it a few minutes.
Traffic?
Ok, so it seems that I-40, I-27, Soncy or take your pick is under a permanent state of construction. Don't get me started on Georgia. As bad as we think we have it. We really don't for the most part it generally takes 10-15 minutes to get just about anywhere in town and even with rush hour add another 10 minutes on top of that in most cases which folks in Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth and Houston would dream about.
It's Affordable
For a Texas city the cost of living is really affordable when you look at what you get for the price. Generally speaking when you factor in utilities and costs associated with commute your dollar stretches a lot further here in Amarillo over cities not only in Texas but across the nation.
It's Texan To The Core But A Little Weird Is Perfectly Fine Here
There's plenty of folks who go around sayin' "Keep Austin Weird" and the idea is to embrace what makes it unique. Well Amarillo takes it to a new level. There aren't many places where you can find Cadillacs, Combines, or VW Bugs Buried in the ground or Road Signs that embrace the odd. While on the other side of the coin We love our Rodeo, Barbecue and Boots are perfectly acceptable fashion at anytime or for any occasion.
The People
Maybe you're sitting and chatting with a new friend at a Sod Poodles game or your out and about. The folks in Amarillo are a friendly bunch who love supporting local businesses and are willing to step up and help each other when times get tough with genuine heartfelt Texan hospitality.
