A Farmer’s Take On Cadillac Ranch
One of the first images most people associate with Amarillo (whether you are from here or not) is the world-famous Cadillac Ranch. Located right along I-40, it has been featured in articles and tv shows worldwide. But did you know that the Amarillo area actual has another "Cadillac Ranch type" of attraction?
The Combine City started out as a way for farmer Orville Ladehoff to dispose of an old combine in 2002. 14 machines later, he has a very cool, yet little known panhandle attraction. When Ladehoff was trying to decided what to do with the first broken down machine, it was his wife Grace that suggested he bury it. That led to Ladehoff planting the combine in the ground. Then the rest followed.
Although the location is not hands-on like Cadillac Ranch, you can still visit it. Just be aware that it does sit on private property. It sits along the Claude Highway roadside near the intersection with Whitaker Road.
