A Warning For Storm Season
Winter seems to be behind us in the panhandle, that means Spring and severe storm season. Now is the time to make sure you are prepared so you don't get caught off guard if you experience storm related damage. When you’re ready for a disaster large or small you’ll be equipped to do any clean up and likely avoid being taken advantage of.
The Amarillo Better Business Bureau has some great tips to help you weather the storms:
- Check with your insurance company now about what is covered, how to file a claim if necessary and any deductibles.
- Make a list of companies your trust for repairs and work. A great resource is BBB.org. There you can look at reports, complaints, and even customer reviews. Knowing who you plan to call for home, yard and car repairs will help relieve stress and worry after a storm.
- Obtain bids from several companies. Review the bids, compare like services and remember the lowest bid is not always the best price. The company’s ability to complete your job and the working relationship is also important.
When a disaster hits, it is our instinct to get the problem fixed and life back to normal as quick as possible. If you're not prepared, you may choose the first business that comes knocking at your door. Making hasty decisions in a time of need, could result in higher costs; substandard work or having to do and pay for the same job twice.
Immediately after a storm, you will want to get things back to normal in a hurry and you're guard may be down. Be patient and ask if temporary repairs can be made. Remember, it will take some time to get back to normal.
