I Was Today Years Old When I Found Out
Did you know that Rick Husband International Airport has its own police department? I was pleasantly surprised when I found out, and I hope I'm not the only one who didn't know this piece of information. Previously, I assumed that the Amarillo Police Department or the Potter County Sheriffs provided law enforcement for the airport, and in case of a major problem, they would alert local law enforcement. However, that's not the case as the airport has its very own police department located near the terminal.
According to the Amarillo International Airport, the Amarillo Airport Police Department is manned by sworn officers 24 hours a day, providing service to approximately 410,000 airport visitors annually.
The mission of the Amarillo Airport Police Department is to effectively and efficiently provide for the protection of lives and property, preserve the public peace, and provide needed services for the airport and the community with the highest level of professionalism and ethical standards.
These police officers are true law enforcement and not just security officers. They have all the training and background required of a licensed peace officer. These officers are required to be licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
