Listen up, residents of Amarillo, Texas, if you have a medicine cabinet full of unused medicine, it's time for a clean out.  You don't want to keep all those old pills because you never know who or what might get their hands on old, outdated medication.

Many people have a bunch of meds just lying around because they didn't finish their antibiotic like they were supposed to, or the doctor changed their medication out before they finished that round.  It's easy to let medication pile up in a cabinet over the years.  Plus, you can't just throw away or flush meds to get rid of them. Although a lot of people do, you shouldn't.

Why You Shouldn't Throw Away or Flush Old Medication?

  • It could contaminate the environment around you
  • Flushing for tossing down the drain can contribute to antibiotic resistance
  • If left accessible, children and/or pets could accidentally ingest them
  • You don't want someone who abuses medication to have access
