The summer doesn't just bring the heat; it brings scorching fires. Amarillo has been inundated with fires since the beginning of summer.

How Many Fires Have Hit Amarillo This Summer?

The Amarillo Fire Department sends out reports after a fire occurs in the city, and since June, they have reported at least 10 structure fires, including homes and buildings.

The 2024 Annual Fire Investigation report found that the Amarillo Fire Marshal's Office responded to 238 cases, increasing from prior years. The AFMO investigated 55 arson cases, another increase from the previous year. In 2024, the number of fire deaths was 3, which was lower than in previous years, and injuries did increase to 24.

Amarillo PD’s Plea to the Public

We get it… everyone wants to be the next viral cameraman for “Mugshots of Randall County” or “Potter County Mugshots”. But this is a safety issue, and we really need folks to stay clear and let our first responders do their jobs safely and efficiently.

This should go without saying: in dangerous fire situations, let the professionals do their jobs. Firefighters are trained for these emergencies; bystanders taking photos or videos are not, and their presence can get in the way of life-saving efforts. Rest assured, someone else will share the video or photos later. Most of the time, the Amarillo Fire Department will share photos and videos on its Facebook Page.  It's not like Amarillo needs a paparazzi.

Does Amarillo Need More Firehouses?

The Amarillo Fire Department will continue to do its job and do it with excellence. Currently, they have 13 stations located all over Amarillo, and on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, it was announced that the Amarillo City Council approved Firehouse 14.

Where Will Firehouse 14 Be Built?

This $7.5 million fire station will be located at 810 Quail Creek Drive. The facility will be two-story and 19,000 sq ft, including training space for the entire Amarillo Fire Department.
