Amarillo Business Destroyed by Fire – Here’s How to Help
Amarillo is a great community that comes together especially when tragedy hits one of our community members.
On Thursday, December 1st, the Amarillo Fire Department was called out to a 2-alarm structure fire located at Advance Tire Shop located at 2200 SE 27th.
According to the Amarillo Fire Department, multiple calls were received reporting the fire. When the first engine appeared on the scene, the tire shop was fully engulfed with fire and smoke.
Fire crews reported that tires were exploding or popping inside the building right after arrival at 1:01 am.
One person was treated by paramedics for injuries but refused transport to the hospital. The AFD had to close down Osage Drive while extinguishing the fire because of all the hoses on the street reaching the hydrant. Heavy equipment operators were sent to the scene by the City of Amarillo to remove tires to help in extinguishing the fire.
The Fire Marshal has ruled the fire Reckless Arson. It was caused by a homeless male who started the fire to keep warm.
According to the owners: Sadly we lost everything and had no insurance.
The Amarillo Fire Department ended up using over 4 million gallons of water to put out the fire. Damage to the business was over $700,000.
A Go Fund Me has been set up to help the family.
I have a sister and brother in law who lives in Amarillo. [December 1, 2022] they lost their family owned business due to a fire that was set accidentally by a homeless [person] who was trying to stay warm. Unfortunately it was a total loss and they have no insurance on the business. They just celebrated the birth of their daughter back in August and this business was their only source of income. Any contributions is greatly appreciated since they will have start over and build from the ground up.
