Restaurant Wars Heat Up in Amarillo as Chipotle Expands and Qdoba Arrives
The one thing Amarillo isn't lacking in is restaurants. We have a lot of restaurants and new restaurants are moving in every day.
Amarillo is also home to unspoken wars between competing businesses. Just look at Toot N Totum and Pak-A-Sak. We all know they have an unspoken war going on, because as soon as you see a Pak-A-Sak go up, TnT pops up across the street.

It's the same for restaurants. McDonald's and Burger King have always had that war of the fast food burgers going on. It seems that a new restaurant war may be brewing in Amarillo between Chipotle and Qdoba
When Did Chipotle Open in Amarillo?
In 2015, Chipotle finally opened in Amarillo. It is located at 2414 S. Georgia St. It was a great addition to the Yellow City and those that love Chipotle were excited to finally have one here. It has been the lone location until it was announced in late 2024 that they were getting ready to open a new location in Amarillo. This one will be located at 5802 S Coulter in the recently vacated Arby's building.

However, it wasn't long after Chipotle announced a second location that we found out that Qdoba was moving into Amarillo. This new restaurant is moving and taking over the former Roll 'Em Up Taquitos building.
Where is Qdoba opening in Amarillo?
Qdoba is opening their new location in the former Roll 'Em Up Taquito location at 5900 SW 45th Ave. They are expected to be open later this month or in early April. The construction is coming along quickly.

Qdoba and Chipotle are pretty similar places. They both let you build your own bowls and burritos, and they focus on Mexican food. While they do have some differences, they are definitely alike in a lot of ways.
The one thing you'll find about Qdoba is they don't charge for the queso and guacamole as a topping, and Chipotle does.
It seems very convenient that Chipotle is opening a location within 2 miles of where Qdoba is opening. Coincidence or was this a planned strategy?
However, most people do choose to support local and will always be loyal to Sharky's Burrito Company when it comes to build-your-own.
Either way, it's great to have more choice in Amarillo on where to eat.
