It was recently announced that the Cinemark 16 in Lubbock would be closing. It seems when something closes in Lubbock, the same business tends to close in Amarillo shortly thereafter, and vice versa.

Cinemark 16 in Lubbock was located at 5721 58th St.  This theater had been open since 1990, but if memory serves, it hadn't been updated much since it opened.  The Cinemark website shows that it is permanently closed.

Is Amarillo's Cinemark Hollywood 16 Closing?

To be honest, it seems that Amarillo's Cinemark is safe.  On any given weekend if you drive by the theater the parking lot is packed.  When you go online to purchase tickets on their website, tickets are available weeks in advance.  Plus, when purchasing tickets you can see that people are still buying tickets to this theater by the grayed-out reserved seats for each movie.

Cinemark Hollywood 16 is one of two theaters (not including the drive-in) left in Amarillo and the entire building was renovated less than 10 years ago.  Plus, they are always updating their technology.

You can probably sleep soundly knowing, that our Cinemark Hollywood 16 isn't going anywhere.

Keep in mind, even though Cinemark Movies 16 in Lubbock closed its doors, Cinemark Tinseltown is open and will remain open. It makes sense that an underperforming theater that hasn't been updated would be closed.  It makes good business sense.

For now, know that if you want to go see a movie in Amarillo, you can still go to the corner of Hollywood Road and I-27 and go to Cinemark Hollywood 16.
