One of my favorite things about fall is the return of football, I'll admit Amarillo is a new world for me spending years covering Austin, San Antonio and Central Texas along with El Paso back in the day but the spirit is very much the same and getting to know some of the teams here has been a fun experience and the Thursday night may not have all the glam of Friday but a pretty big upset already took place in district play as Tascosa nearly shut out the previously undefeated Palo Duro Dons. I'll admit after a few moments at the Tri State Fair, Catching a football game here in town was on my to do list and this game didn't disappoint, the crowd was loud and ready for all the fun. My only regret? Not bringing my big camera to get some of the game action. but my trusty notepad and max preps helped me figure things out quick.

Tascosa Hits The Gas And Doesn't Look Back

Tascosa had what looked to be on paper a tough match for Homecoming facing an undefeated Palo Duro Dons team with wins at Seminole, Wichita Falls, Plainview and Borger. The Rebels made it clear early on that it was going to be a rough night for the Dons scoring on a 2 yard rush less than 4 minutes into the game from full back Joshua Splawn who went for 64 yards on the previous play. Only few minutes later Senior QB BT Daniel gets in the end zone for another 6 and with an extra point finish the first quarter with a 14-0 lead.

The second quarter saw two more TD's from Daniel and Major Everhart took the rock home for touchdown as well. leaving the Dons with 34 unanswered going into the half.

Third Quarter, was the same old song and dance from the Rebels as Tayden Barnes runs in two for 13 more points. At this point we head to the fourth and The Dons start to rally but it wasn't enough Senior RB Ikyah Vinson keeps the blowout at bay with a TD run with 1:38 on the clock.

Some of the stats have 4 of the Rebels going for 50+ rushing yards including Joshua Splawn, Tayden Barnes, BT Daniel and Major Everhart. Each of them getting into the endzone. For the Dons give credit where its due to Tre'sean Monroe going 14 carries, 73 yards subbing in for injured starting QB Avery Randle.
