You've got to love Texas. It's a vast state.  Inside this vast state is a lot of land that gets overgrown.  Just look at Amarillo and Lubbock, land as far as the eye can see, further south the more tree-dense land in New Braunfels, and the rest of Hill Country.

Texas has many farms and lots of farmland all over the state and on those farms are farm animals. It's no wonder, Texans have found a way to make money off their goats that don't involve selling them.

That's not what they are called, but that's what we'll call them. Let's face it, goats are interesting creatures. What are they truly good for, other than milk, fiber, and meat?

They are also cute and fun to watch!

They eat all the time!  So it makes sense to let them out on a pasture you need to cut down.  They will eat the brush and whatever else is growing on the land.   However, at some point, you don't need the goats to do that and they are just hanging out on the farm being a goat.

What if you could put the goats to work and make money?

You can!  Interestingly enough multiple businesses across Texas rent goats.   They will come and release goats onto your property and let them munch their way through all the brush, grass, and foliage.

The Houston Arboretum rents goats to come and clear out the brush in their beautiful facility.   They have been doing this since 2020, this year they have over 120 goats in a 3-acre area chomping away.  Guests are allowed to watch the goats but aren't allowed to touch or feed them.

Rent-a-Ruminant has two locations in Texas including Brownwood and North Texas.

Other rent-a-goat businesses in Texas include:

Oba Farms - based in Greenville, Texas

Goatman's GoatScape - Coldspring, Texas

It's an interesting business.  A lot of these rent-a-goat businesses are in Central Texas.  It seems there should be several of these lawnmower goat businesses in the Texas Panhandle and West Texas.

Hmmmm, let's open one up!

These businesses are mainly for goat landscaping, but you would be surprised at how many are available to rent goats and other livestock for parties, pictures, etc.  Goats are a hot commodity and needed for more than just milk, fiber, and meat!
