Kyle Daniel, ‘A Friend With Weed’ [Exclusive Premiere]

Just in time for 4/20 festivities, Nashville singer-songwriter Kyle Daniel is premiering his stoner-friendly new song "A Friend With Weed" exclusively for readers of The Boot. Press play below to listen, and just try to resist the urge to light up.

Perhaps not surprisingly, Daniel wrote "A Friend With Weed" while hanging out with friends and smoking pot. "Over a doobie and a cozy fire this past fall, my friends took the old saying 'a friend with weed is a friend indeed' and made a lighthearted song based on stoner culture," Daniel tells The Boot. "The song seemed to write itself, as we were all on the same wavelength."

"A Friend With Weed" provides a perfect anthem for Saturday's (April 20) "holiday": "It's Friday again, and we ain't got s--t to do / We'll get high as a giraffe up in a tree," Daniel sings. "So if I share some with you, you share with me / A friend with weed is a friend indeed." The song takes a brief detour into political territory in its calls for legalization of marijuana, but is mostly just a fun tune about getting high.

"Grab a few of your close buddies, fire up your toke of choice and enjoy this pot-friendly anthem," Daniel says. "After all, sharing is caring, and it’s about time we legalize it!"

Following the release of his most recent EP, What's There to Say? -- "A Friend With Weed" was in contention for the project, but didn't make the final cut -- Daniel is currently working on new music, writing songs with fellow singer-songwriter Will Hoge. After playing alongside artists such as Clare Dunn and Casey James, Daniel turned his attention to his solo career, and he's since shared the stage with artists including Miranda Lambert and Jason Isbell.
