The Texas Panhandle is full of rich history. Although Amarillo may be the hub of the Texas Panhandle, the Yellow City is surrounded by many great towns. One of those towns is Borger, Texas. Borger has a fascinating history; it started as a boomtown in 1926.

Borger was once bigger than Amarillo.  Soon Borger became known as a lawless boomtown, and the Texas Rangers had to be sent in to clean it up.

Since being known as the wildest town in the Panhandle, Borger has calmed down and grown into a great place to live and raise a family.  Known for its oil and rich history, Borger features several well-known places in the city. In fact, many locations in Borger are believed to be haunted.

Borger is also known for it's great local restaurants.

Onions Cafe

Onions Cafe has been open in Borger for 30 years.   The current owner, Nita Crabtree just celebrated their 24th anniversary at Onions Cafe.

Onions Cafe is best known for its incredible burgers, and it's hard to find a review where people don't like the great food sold at Onions Cafe.  It is the perfect little spot you would expect to find in Borger, Texas complete with nostalgia.

Oh and they are the home of the Largest Green Onion!

Onions is so well known The Day Tripper made a stop while visiting Borger.

The next time you're traveling through Borger or you're just looking for a quick day trip, make sure you stop at Onions Cafe and grab a bite to eat.   Oh and don't forget the pie for dessert!

This once-lawless Wild West boomtown is now a quiet town of 13,000 nestled in the Texas Panhandle. Located 40 miles north of Amarillo and 13 miles from Lake Meredith, the city of Borger is your typical small town. Friendly faces and warm greetings will surround you as you stroll down Borger's Main Street--a trip we highly recommend you take at least once in your life time.
