Post-Fire Update On Family Support Services

After a devastating fire destroyed much of Family Support Services downtown this past weekend, the organization is doing everything it can to get back up and running.

We are grateful for the outpouring of support since our fire on Sunday. We lost so much, but have gained a spirit of gratitude and feel blessed. We will continue to serve the 25,000 people a year who need us. Since the fire on Sunday, staff and Board have been working to resume services at temporary locations. Every division of FSS was devastated and our primary goal is to get the divisions up and serving clients quickly. Our Safe House was not damaged as it is at a remote location – but the Safe House staff have taken on the burden of all phone calls and temporary home of our Crisis Services division.

As the rebuilding continues, FSS will be working out of different locations throughout Amarillo and will also have existing hotlines restored and new phone numbers for those needing services to use.

Veterans Resource Center

The Veterans Resource Center is relocating to the second floor of the Guyon Saunders Resource Center, 200 S Tyler, and will be ready to resume services next week.

Donations

Several funds have been established for donations to enable FSS to continue operations:

• Amarillo National Bank - FSS Fire Fund
• Happy State Bank - Family Support Services Fire Relief Fund
• Bank of America - Family Support Services Fire Recovery Account

Donations will be accepted in person as any branch of those banks or a check can be mailed to P.O. Box 31150, Amarillo, TX 79120.

FSS says they are overwhelmed with the amount of support the community is offering and it is most appreciated as they operate from temporary locations and resume operations as quickly as possible. At this time, they mostly need monetary donations.
