Shamrock Texas Is A Must See This St. Paddy’s Day
Did you know that the official Texas state St. Patrick’s Day parade is just down the road from Amarillo? St. Patrick’s Day is always huge in the town of Shamrock, just about 90 miles east of Amarillo on I-40. The Texas House Legislature passed the bill back in 2013, but anyone who has celebrated St. Patrick’s Day in Shamrock, already knows how big it is… and this year is no exception!
The weekend kicks off on Friday afternoon with a carnival and later a kickoff banquet. Events start back up early on Saturday morning with a 5K Run for Life, arts and crafts show, and the big parade at 10:30am. The the afternoon is filled with a cornhole tournament, motorcycle rally, auto show, and the evening raps up with the annual dance. This year’s music headliners at the dance will be Shooter Jennings and Grant Gilbert. You can get your tickets for the dance online right here. Then on Sunday it’s more rides at the carnival and the lad n’ lassie pageant at the high school. Click here to get the full schedule of events.
The town boasts over 600 hotel rooms and even a Tesla car charging station. If you plan on making it a weekend, just before to book your hotel room ASAP since they are known to sell out for the festival weekend.
ROAD TRIP TIP: One of the other highlights of Shamrock, whether visiting during St. Patrick’s Day or not, is the U-Drop Inn. If you are a fan of the movie “Cars” or just a junkie for historic Rt. 66 architecture, you won’t be disappointed.
