High school is a time of life where you jump in, get involved, and start working your way to adulthood. For some, it's not an easy time of life, but for others who get involved and find their people, it's an amazing one. Theater is a big part of high school for some, and two area schools competed recently in the Texas UIL State One-Act Play.

Recently, we shared that Tascosa High School's theater department made it to UIL State for their one-act play. These students worked hard and deserved that honor.

Tascosa Seniors Swap Graduation Parties for a Bus Ride to Austin

This competition was significant because the seniors on the team chose to walk their graduation stage on Monday night, May 18, then hop on a bus and head to Austin to compete. For some, it meant skipping senior celebrations that only come once in a lifetime. On Tuesday, May 19th, they competed against peers from across Texas in the Texas UIL One-Act Play 5A category, performing The Arsonists.

Top 8 in Texas: Tascosa Performs The Arsonists on the State Stage

The students competed and, although they didn't place in the top 3, they performed their best. They were, however, one of the Top 8 one-act plays. They made it to state for the first time in decades, and it was a huge accomplishment.

Individual Honors: Tascosa Students Recognized at UIL State in Austin

Several Tascosa students received honors at the competition. Justice Skidmore made the All-Star Cast for his performance of Gottlieb Biedermann. Trysten Dowd received Honorable Mention All-Star Cast for his performance of Schmitz.

Tascosa High School wasn't the only area school that made it to the Texas UIL One-Act State competition.

Randall Makes the Trip to Austin and Brings Home Honors of Their Own

We would like to congratulate Canyon ISD's Randall High School Theater for also making it to UIL State in the 4A division with their one-act play, Black Snow. Wesley Willburn made the All-Star Cast with his performance of Sergei Leontivich Maxudov, the Writer. Lilian Brooks made Honorable Mention All-Star Cast with her performance of Comrade Toropetskaya, Chief Administrator.
