It appears Texas is at the top of a list that no one wants to brag about. According to a recent report, Texas is at the top of the list of most reported teacher-student sex cases.

This report was compiled by Terry Abbott, a former chief of staff of the U.S. Department of Education. While he says the report is not scientific, it is drawn from media reports of reported teacher-student sex cases.

Even if the report doesn't include some cases that the media did not report, this is still very alarming in nature.

States With Most Reported Teacher-Student Sex Cases

  1. Texas - 116 cases
  2. Pennsylvania - 45 cases
  3. California - 43 cases
  4. Florida - 40 cases
  5. Ohio - 37 cases
  6. North Carolina - 31 cases
  7. New Jersey - 28 cases
  8. New York - 27 cases
  9. Alabama - 25 cases
  10. Illinois - 25 cases

It is also worth noting that some states have lower ages of consent, such as Wyoming, in which relationships aren't considered a crime if the student is over 16. In other states, like Michigan, it's illegal for a teacher to have sex with a student regardless of age.

The same report also showed the states with the highest teacher-student sex cases per capita and Texas was still in the top 10.

  1. Alabama
  2. Kentucky
  3. Louisiana
  4. Vermont
  5. Mississippi
  6. District of Columbia
  7. Texas
  8. Utah
  9. Alaska
  10. New Mexico

Regardless of which list you look at, it's obvious we have a problem that needs to change immediately.
