Over the weekend I went to Market Street to get my weekly groceries and my weekly Hatch Green Chili’s.

After I dropped $150 on grocery's I did what a lot of people do....I drove through and picked up lunch.

Now I did have this planned already because Burger King finally released their Impossible Whopper nationwide last Thursday. So I just had to try it.

It is their version of a plant based burger. Their claim is it’s 100% Whopper and 0% Beef. Yes I was intrigued so I wanted to try it. No, I don't have any problem eating an actual Whopper. I mean I love beef.....this is Texas after all.

I just sometimes want to try something new. A great time to find out whether I like something or not. Morning Star has a spicy black bean burger that I really like as well. So I wanted to see what all the fuss is about.

I asked while I was waiting on my Impossible Whopper how the response has been. Have people been liking it? The lady at the window said yes the responses have been positive. So that started me off with hope.

I got home with my Impossible Whopper with regret. Why? I forgot to tell them No Mayo! I don't like the taste on my Whopper and I feel they put too much on it anyway. So I always go without....it's also great on the calorie front.

I got lucky....for some reason they did not put the Mayo on anyway. Disaster was avoided. So this is what the Impossible Whopper looks like.

It sure looks like a Whopper. Oh and again I was SO happy that there was no mayo. It was a good day. So now to try it. I took my first bite and thought you know it really wasn't bad. In fact I actually kind of like it.

Did it taste exactly like a Whopper? Close. I think it was only because I knew it wasn't an actual Whopper that I think I noticed a difference. Now it doesn't have the strong flame grilled beef taste that a Whopper has but it is really close.

So how is it on the nutrition front? If you use Burger King's nutritional calculator to look at the nutritional value of the Impossible Whopper without mayo (as a vegan would eat), it actually does appear to be quite a bit healthier than a traditional with mayo-smeared  Whopper, with almost 200 calories less, 24 less grams of fat, 4 less grams of saturated fat, and no trans fats. Skipping the mayo also makes the Impossible Whopper cholesterol free, and lowers its sodium by 140 milligrams.

Would I order it again? I think I would. I was pleasantly surprised. I am glad that I am not afraid to try new stuff. Oh and guess what I had for dinner? An actual burger I made on the grill. Yep, that is how I roll.
