The memories that families create over the Christmas season are priceless, however for a lot of homes, the lights we use to help make those Christmas memories are not. Texans can expect their electric bill to rise when the Christmas lights shine bright during those holiday months.

How much will it cost?

Using data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, Mr. Electric found out just how much it would cost for those running lights 7 hours a day from Thanksgiving - New Year's Day.

Incandescent Lights (did you know they were banned?)

  • Typical Usage $21
  • Heavy Usage $224
  • Extreme Usage $603

LED Lights

  • Typical Usage $3
  • Heavy Usage $30
  • Extreme Usage $78

A lot of people enjoy using the C9 bulbs on their house lights because they just have that classic look. However, did you know that if you switch to LED lights, it would drop the average rise in costs during this time by about $18? If you are that person who goes all out as an extreme user, your costs would be about $526.
