However, once Christmas is over so is the Christmas tree.  Eventually, it is going to die and will start slowly dropping the pine needles and start turning brown.  You don't want that in your home and will need a creative way to dispose of the tree.

There are many ways you can use your Christmas tree after the holiday.

You can turn your Christmas tree into mulch.  You can take those dried-up pine needles and use them as mulch in your yard or garden.  You can use the smaller branches to start a compost.

Take the tree and use it for something different.  You can put the tree outside and use it as a birdhouse or hang bird feeders from the branches.  Cut the trunk of the tree into smaller sizes and use that to make crafts.

Ponds and Wildlife Habitats

The Texas A&M Forest Service suggests using your Christmas tree for ponds and wildlife.

Place Christmas trees in yards or nature landscapes or in bodies of water to create habitat for wildlife. When Christmas trees are sunken into water bodies, they increase the complexity of the aquatic habitat. Woody debris provides a place for aquatic species to flourish, which increases overall biodiversity. If you do not have a pond or lake on your property, contact local officials to see if there is a suitable body of water in which you can properly dispose of your tree.

This doesn't mean go throw your Christmas tree into a body of water.  Check with your local authorities first before just randomly throwing your tree into a lake or local pond.

We reached out to the City of Amarillo to find out how residents can dispose of their Christmas trees and they said to use the City of Amarillo's bulky item pick-up.

Please, DO NOT dispose of your dead Christmas tree in the alleys.

If none of these work, you can always call a local landscaping company and pay them to come and take the tree off your hands or turn it into mulch.
