When it comes to driving in Texas, one of the things we as drivers have to worry about is the price of gas. That’s one item in our budget that’s always changing. You never know from one month to the next how much to set aside for gas.

You may have noticed, as you stop at the pump and fill up, that it’s not costing as much to fill up your car. That's a good thing. It's always a plus when gas prices drop. That means we can keep a little extra or put it towards another bill.

The statewide average in Texas is $2.64 a gallon, which is 7 cents lower than last week. The national average is $3.04 per gallon.

Where Are Gas Prices the Lowest in Texas?

Dallas saw a 21-cent drop in gas prices this week. Last week, those in Dallas were paying $2.81 per gallon, and this week the price is $2.60.

Amarillo currently has the cheapest gas in the state at $2.47 per gallon. Meanwhile, San Angelo saw the biggest jump in prices this week, up 24 cents to $2.85 per gallon.

Why Are Gas Prices Dropping?

According to AAA Texas, with the summer travel season ending and fall setting in, there is a lower demand for gas. Plus, as the seasons change, refineries switch blends from a more expensive summer blend to a more affordable winter blend. The absence of major storms means the refineries have been able to produce steadily.
