Palo Duro High School Locked Down On Wednesday Afternoon
Social media is a curse and an effective tool when it comes to getting the word out about things happening in our community.
UPDATE Official Word from the APD:
Wednesday, May 10th, 2:32 pm: According to the Amarillo Police Department a tip was received that a Palo Duro High School student had brought a weapon to school. Once receiving that tip Amarillo ISD put the campus on lockdown. The Amarillo PD school liasion officers were able to locate the student. At the time, the student did not have the weapon on his person, but APD was eventually able to find the weapon.
The student was a 15-year-old male and was arrested and booked into the Youth Center of the High Plains and charged with Unlawfully carrying a weapon in a weapon free zone and tampering with a serial number.
The Amarillo Police Department would like to remind you to talk with your children and reinforce "If you see something, say something." It's the best and most effective way to keep our schools safe.
On Wednesday afternoon, May 10th, around 12:30 pm a person posted on social media, a question.
What is Going on at PD?
PD means Palo Duro High School. Apparently, the school was put on lockdown, and students were not able to leave or change classes and had been in the same class since 11:20 am.
The speculation at this time, is that a tip was received that a student brought a gun onto the property. Again, this is all speculation.
We have reached out to Amarillo ISD and the Amarillo Police Department and are awaiting more information.
As of this time, we don't have any confirmation from PDHS or the Amarillo Police Department on what occurred. Some parents have said that they have been in communication with their children through text.
As soon as more information is made available we will be updating with current information.
UPDATE: Wednesday, May 10th, 1:45 pm, parents were reporting on social media that their children let them know they were out of lockdown.
