The reason for this high insurance is how at risk Amarillo is for climate-related disasters.  Amarillo both Potter and Randall Counties have experienced multiple disasters in the last few years, from flooding to wildfires to crazy hail.  All of that impacts the cost of insurance regardless if you were affected or not.

We cannot stop what Mother Nature is going to throw at us, and unfortunately, we have to have insurance on our homes and have no control over the increases. We are stuck paying what we have to pay or running the risk of having your home destroyed and paying out of pocket for repairs.
