This is Amarillo! Man Takes Police on Multiple Chases
Why can't we get through one holiday here in Amarillo without something crazy happening in our city? Now, this didn't exactly happen on Memorial Day, but it did happen during the holiday weekend.
The Amarillo Police Department was called out to the 900 block of Hastings on Sunday, May 29th at 9:54 am. A man was trying to break into a vehicle. Once the APD located the male suspect, the suspect took off running. He ran through several yards and jumped several fences. Then the man ran into a garage located in the same block of Hastings and stole a truck.
Officers went from chasing this man on foot to a car chase to a home in the 2100 block of Northwest 2nd Ave. The suspect ran inside the residence and barricaded himself inside.
The APD set up a perimeter around the area of the home, the suspect then exited the house, got back into the truck, and took off again. APD once again followed the suspect. The suspect went south on Georgia and jumped out of the vehicle in a parking lot at 15th and Georgia. He then grabbed a female who was in the area.
An APD undercover officer preceded to contact the suspect, but the suspect then got back into the truck and sped off onto I-40 Westbound and exited at Bell Street proceeded to Alice St. APD Swat was in the area and they were able to trap the driver and stopped him at Alice St and Plains Blvd.
They took the suspect into custody and booked him in the Potter County Detention Center. He was charged with Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, Criminal Mischief, Evading Arrest, Evading Arrest in Motor Vehicle, Criminal Trespass of a Habitation, and Failure to Identify.
The suspect was identified as Jose Sanchez, 51-years-old.
Just a friendly reminder, you may think you can get away, but you will eventually get caught.
