Amarillo Has Gone Orange, It’s Not A Good Thing
[Opinion] I love oranges, you peel 'em and they just happen to be a great treat. squeeze a bunch of 'em up and you got yourself a nice bit of orange juice. Today... sadly I'm not doing a piece about all the wonders of this great citrus fruit or about the mimosas on the cover image.
No. Today we hit a milestone here in the Amarillo Area. The folks over at Amarillo Public Health have placed us back into Level Orange when it comes to Covid-19 Cases. What does this mean for the Bomb City? Is it all going to... uhh... wait can't say that here... let me rephrase. Are we going back down a road we thought we got off of? Maybe.
Covid-19 Cases are Going Back Up
Yep, active cases have gone back up over the 500 mark which we haven't seen in some time prompting officials here to move us from the yellow category which still had us practicing social distancing and taking precautions with gatherings and travelling to a more restrictive orange category which according to officials has us
- Practicing Strict Social Distancing
- Using masks in public settings
- using strict hygiene and cleaning routines
- limiting gatherings to small groups
- limiting non essential community travel
- limiting out of town travel
Seriously though, Like most of you I thought we were done with this stuff... There's no point in telling folks to get the vaccine is there? It seems that those who wanted to get the vaccine have already done so and there's certainly no help from the Governor who isn't ordering any kind of mask mandate. He's moved on, many of us have but it looks like this disease is here to stay. Welcome to the new normal. To the folks like me who did our part, we can scream at the top of our lungs but it seems like the battle is lost.
Maybe not... maybe this is exactly what we need to get back on track
