When the self checkout lanes first were spotted here in Amarillo I was thrilled. I mean great. I could ring up my own stuff and put more than two items in a bag. I thought I could be faster.

I would be able to avoid the chit chat so that would speed up my time. I was a big fan. I really was. I mean if going to the self checkout is an option I am all for it. Now that the self checkout is sometimes our only option I am out.

Do You Like the Self Checkout IF it is an Option?

That being said I hate it if self checkout is NOT just an option. What I mean is if I go into a store and that really is the ONLY way I can check out. Like everyone else, I don't work here. I shouldn't have to look up codes for vegetables. I shouldn't have to wait on someone to walk over and give me permission to buy super glue.

I shouldn't have to learn the system. I know it's basically easy but again I am the customer. It just sometimes frustrates me.

They say Scan & Go but I feel like I end up Scanning and waiting. I end up holding up the line so I can be approved for something so simple as cold medicine.

I gave kudos to Walmart the other day for making it easy for me to buy my gift cards this year. In fair play I have to state that I hate going in to shop because I know I will be having to check everything out myself. I will just have to unless I want to wait in a long line.

If You Have Self Checkouts Also Have More Than One Regular Register Open

It frustrates me when I go to Walmart and they have all these self checkout registers open but good luck finding an actual register with a cashier. If they have one open that is usually the only one I see open. Just one.

I found the open lane at Walmart with a cashier.

If I decide I need a bottle of wine after this shopping experience, again, I have to have someone stop what they are doing, IF they are not busy, to approve that I am over 21. It just ends up wasting more time.

It never fails that I need assistance.

Anytime I do see a cashier at an open register, guess what? That register has a long line. Why? Because we want to have someone else help us now. In the long run it seems to speed up the process. I think I just like having a cashier. Plus it puts more people to work.

If I Have to Do My Own Checkout Don't Make Me Feel Like a Thief Leaving

Either trust me or check my stuff out for me. I hate after I leave the checkout register and they make me feel like I have stolen something. Checking my receipt. Let's be honest, they don't check too hard, but still. Either have an employee ring up my stuff or let me out the door without stopping. Something has got to give. It seems like right now it's just us doing the giving.
