Many students have made a name for themselves while attending WTAMU.  One student who recently graduated is making a name in the rodeo world.

Kallen Johnson

Johnson is an Amarillo native who received his degree in agribusiness and economics in May.   He was named the Southwest Region tie-down roping champion at the Tarleton State University College Rodeo.

Kallen Johnson is On His Way to the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming.

Johnson will be representing WT Rodeo, June 6-15.

“This is my first year to qualify for the nationals,” Johnson said. “I’ve always been right there on the edge of it. Even this year, there were a bunch of guys who could catch me and bump me out, but I just kept my head down and it worked out.”

Johnson has been a part of the WT Rodeo team for 4-years.

The rodeo team has been a staple at WTAMU for over 25 years and has 35 members from all over the United States.  The team has had multiple qualifiers for the CNFR and many regional champions throughout its history.

In the meantime, let's cheer on Kallen Johnson as he competes at the CNFR!

“I love the rush, the adrenaline you get from calf roping. There are a lot of things that can go wrong in a hurry.”

Good Luck Kallen, we are proud of you!
