Stick ‘Em Up! A New Landmark Comes to Amarillo
Amarillo has many landmarks in the city. We have the heart downtown, Cadillac Ranch, and Ozymandias on the Plains (The Giant Legs).
Now Amarillo will have another landmark!
Daryl Podzemy went to work on creating a new landmark for Amarillo. This new landmark stands 20 feet tall and 33 feet long and is held down by 4-foot-deep concrete footings. These footings are created to withstand the crazy Texas Panhandle winds, and it has a 1 million-pound straight anchor system. In other words, this new Amarillo landmark isn't going anywhere.
Podzemy used to have a tornado shelter business and he used to buy tanks from a friend. He thought, "what could he build out of these tanks"?
What could this be? This round tank could become so many things.
So many pieces.
The plot thickens as this looks to be the base of something interesting.
It's all being pieced together
Have you figured it out yet?
Yep, You guessed it! It's a revolver!
Here's Daryl standing next to his creation and new Amarillo landmark.
This project took about a month to create, which is amazing because this giant landmark is huge!
Could Tex Randall pick it up?
Podzemy doesn't think so,
I think it's too big for him.
This isn't the first project for Podzemy, about 8 years ago he built a 28 ft teepee, that is near the Cliffside Event Center where the revolver is located, and last year built a 12 ft tall bicycle that sits on the rim of that same location.
This revolver is just one more thing to bring tourism into Amarillo. When people travel and Google cool landmarks in Amarillo, they can add this to the list of places to visit.
The new landmark is located on Cliffside Road, near Cliffside Events Center at 5250 Cliffside Road. Cliffside Road is located north of Loop 335. It runs west from North Western past North Soncy and ends at Stonegate Bridge Road.
