I will admit when we were in a meeting recently here a work this term came up. Crunchy Granola Mom's. Never heard that in my life. So of course I was intrigued. I needed to find out what it is. Was I considered to be one? Is my daughter, who is a new mom, one?

Oh and more importantly is being one a good or bad thing? Inquiring minds and moms want to know.

So First of All What is a Crunchy Granola Mom?

I did some research and I found this from "The House and Homestead":

I learned that the definition of a “crunchy mom” is a mom who practices natural parenting or, as defined by one website, a “neo-hippie.” So basically if you are a crunchy mom, you typically give birth at home (or in a meadow or river or something), cloth-diaper your babes, prepare all your own organic baby foods, co-sleep, breastfeed exclusively (no bottles or formula), believe in baby-led weaning and are anti-vaccinations.

Oh no. No, no, no, no. I am and my daughter is not a crunchy mom. We both would be grossed out by cloth-diapers. Never would we clean and reuse a diaper. We throw those out in a plastic bag at my house or in her Ubbi Diaper pail as soon as possible.

Some of those diapers feel a bit too gross to ever throw in my washing machine. Ever. So that is a no-go. Plus we both loved being in a hospital with people who were there to help us through the way. So no to the giving birth in a meadow or any of the above.

My daughter does make some of her own baby food. She has been successful with that. In fact, I think baby Laila prefers it that way.

Though she is not over in to it. If she has time she loves to make it. Though, she does understand that not every week she will be able to make all of her food and she is ok with it.

I was fortunate enough to breastfeed when my daughter was growing up. My daughter wasn't as successful. She tried for several months before she gave up. Laila got some breast milk in her early life before she turned totally into formula. You know what? That is ok.

We have nothing against Crunchy Granola moms. Hey to each their own. We are both more the "you know what?" We are going to be the best possible moms we can be. I am on the other side of that now.

I am enjoying my daughter going through it all right now.
