In a perfect world, everyone would get along and everyone would vote, and everyone wouldn't be vicious when it comes to elections.  Amarillo will have a new Mayor.

Amarillo is ready for a change, and Amarillo will have a difference when a new Mayor is elected in 2024, however, at this time, we don't know the complete list of candidates that are running.

Who Should be the Mayor of Amarillo?

We have a couple of ideas and a couple of suggestions.

This guy has a great sense of humor, remember his now-hiring post on Facebook?  How about the time he paid for all those school lunches?  Not to mention he hires employees who lend a helping hand.   We know he can run a business.  He has a nose for BS and could be a great addition to city government.

Let's talk Awesome April.  April is that bright shining beacon in Amarillo.  You never know what corner April will be standing on smiling and offering words of encouragement on a hand-drawn sign.  I think this city could have someone with that kind of encouragement.

Melodie Graves

Melodie is a force and she loves her community.  Melodie has spent many hours advocating for the Northside Community, pushing for growth and change on the north side of Amarillo.  She is also an advisor at Amarillo College, who goes above and beyond for her students. Melodie is no stranger to politics.  Melodie has previously run for City Commission.   It's time we had that kind of passion in our city government.

He's become the face of Amarillo, why not the mayor?  Even though he might stick his head in the sand, err dirt, don't worry that's just how he gets home, he'll always have a smile on his face and a thumbs up for Amarillo.

Cast Your Vote! Or Write In Your Own

Wednesday, January 18th is the first day for those running for office to file for a place on the ballot.  The last day will be February 17th.  Early voting will start on April 24, 2023 with Election Day on May 6th.  Please note Election Day is on a Saturday.

Not only will we be getting a new Mayor, but all 4 seats for the City Commission are also up for reelection.

Amarillo voters have been notorious for not showing up for location elections.  Local elections are probably more important than national, because those you put in office on the local level, are those making and passing laws that affect your day-to-day life.

Please mark your calendars and vote this year.

Say You're From Amarillo Without Saying You're From Amarillo

Amarillo is a pretty quirky place. We've got the Big Texan, the weird signs, and (obviously) the famed Cadillac Ranch. But more than that, there's a distinct culture of close-knit community, eccentrics, a thriving arts scene, and much more.

The point is, living in Amarillo is a unique experience. Because of that, it's really pretty easy to tell who's a native or a long-time resident. And I can prove it.

Here's a couple of ways you can say you're from Amarillo.....without saying you're from Amarillo.
