You Know It’s Not the Same As It Was, Food We Used to Love
I had a revelation last night as I was indulging in a snack. Why don't the foods we loved as kids taste the same? What have they done to our favorite foods?
One of my favorite things in the whole world was chocolate pudding, mixed with a bit of Cool Whip. Now I don't eat it anymore because I don't like the cholate pudding in the cups. It's not the same as it was. The pudding in the tiny tin cans was the best.
As I'm pondering and reminiscing and waxing nostalgic about how I wished pudding still came in a can, especially since just about every vegetable comes in a pop-top can, why can't they bring back pudding in a can, my guess is the lid becomes a small slicing device that would cut small fingers. But hey, I only cut my tongue, once, maybe twice. I had a revelation last night as I was indulging in a snack. There is even Facebook group dedicated to getting the pudding in a can back on shelves.
But I digress, Why don't the foods we loved as kids taste the same? What have they done to our favorite foods?
I reached out on my Facebook page to see if I was crazy and I can't be the only one who has noticed the things we used to love just aren't the same anymore.
Canned Pasta
Kelli said ravioli in the can, YES! This doesn't taste the same anymore and don't get me started on Spaghettios. I'm not sure if they changed the formula, but nope, they are not the same.
Dr Pepper
Wendy said canned Dr Pepper isn't the same as bottled Dr Pepper. She's right, but Dr Pepper isn't the same since they moved out of Dublin, Texas. Once they stopped using real sugar as a sweetener and using corn syrup no sodas were ever the same.
Hot Fries
Jesenia said, Hot Fries. I agree with her because on Sunday, I was grabbing tea at a local convenience store and saw Hot Fries. I used to love to get these at the pool and I'm not sure what this bag was that said Hot Fries, but it wasn't exactly the Hot Fries I loved. Andy Capp's what did you do to the Hot Fries?
David mentioned Funyuns and he's right they aren't the same Funyuns either. The recipe has changed on them.
Peeps
Stacy said they aren't the same anymore. I don't know about Peeps because I don't like them and have never liked them, so Stacy I'll take your word on those. Peeps were created in 1953 and will turn 70 in 2023. It used to take 27 hours just to make one Peep. Now it takes 6 minutes. Peeps also come in all shapes, bunnies, pumpkins, Christmas trees, etc.
School Cafeteria Pizza
Jason mentioned school cafeteria pizza. Heck yes! This was definitely the day you didn't bring lunch from home, you made sure you ate in the cafeteria for pizza day. He mentioned he had some a few years ago and it wasn't the same.
Twinkies
Danielle hit the nail on the head with this one. Twinkies. Twinkies were the best especially when Twinkie the Kid was the mascot. Twinkies disappeared from the shelves in 2012 but returned but they were never the same.
These are just a few examples of food we loved when we were younger but just don't taste the same anymore because of packaging or recipe/formula change.
